The architectural design of Laucala Island is deeply rooted in its geographical context, drawing inspiration from the natural environment itself. Utilizing elements such as natural woods and organic textures, the interiors seamlessly merge with the surrounding landscape. Traditional Fijian materials and construction techniques, including the use of ‘magimagi’ (coconut husk string) to bind timber structures and ‘balabala’ (fern tree stems) to mark entrances, are prominently featured throughout the property. Indigenous craftsmanship is showcased in handcrafted artworks and accents, exemplified by the stunning jellyfish chandeliers adorning villa bedrooms. Crafted from hanging shell disks, these chandeliers evoke a sense of movement, as if gracefully swimming beneath the palm-thatched ceilings, adding to the island’s unique aesthetic experience.
